Awareness Activities and Workshops & Conference

1. Celebration of International Day for Biological Diversity (IBD), 22nd May 2013, 2014 and 2015
In December 2000, the UN General Assembly adopted 22 May as the “International Day for Biological Diversity” to commemorate the adoption of the text of the “Convention on Biological Diversity” which has been held on 22 May 1992. To generate awareness among various stakeholders of the state on the significant contributions of biodiversity towards human wellbeing, this day has been celebrated by Odisha Biodiversity Board every year on 22nd May to its full spirit under various themes adopted by the United Nations.
2. Awareness on Biodiversity of Odisha through Nature Walk
In order to create awareness and to enhance basic knowledge on biodiversity, the Board organized two days Nature walk programme for the students of Gumammaha and Sugadabadi high school, Raikia, Kandhamal and students of Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences, Bhubaneswar.
3. Capsule course programme on Biodiversity Conservation in Odisha
Biodiversity - the plants, animal and microbes are threatened in its natural habitat and many of them are in the verge of extinction in Odisha due to manmade and natural factors. Species with socio-economic, ecological and environmental potentials are mostly affected due to lack of awareness among the users which includes common man, traders, scientific communities, students and forest managers. To assist the policy makers in conserving such species the state needs trained taxonomists having the expertise to identify them. Lack of skilled and trained taxonomists towards on spot identification of biological resources including available practical demonstration of methodologies for biodiversity documentation and conservation.
To address this serious and challenging issue, the Board has organised one “Capsule Coarse on Biodiversity Conservation” for post graduate students from 6-7th February 2018.
4. Radio programmes on Biological Diversity of Odisha
