Implementation of UNEP-GEF-MoEF-ABS Project

Odisha Biodiversity Board has received the international project on UNEP-GEF-MoEF & CC-ABS Project through National Biodiversity Authority, Chennai. After approval from the State Government, the project was implemented from September 2015 to March 2019. The Objective of the project on Access and Benefit Sharing was to increase the institutional, individual and systemic capacities of stakeholders to effectively implement the Biological Diversity Act, 2002 & Rules 2004 to achieve biodiversity conservation through implementing Access and Benefit Sharing Agreements in India. Other than Odisha, the project has also been implemented in nine other states namely Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Goa, Karnataka, Telangana, Tripura, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh and Sikkim. The executing organisations included NBA in collaboration with these 10 SBBs, Botanical Survey of India (BSI), Zoological Survey of India (ZSI), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Environment Programme-Division of Environmental Law and Conventions (UNEP/DELC), United Nations University-Institute of Advanced studies (UNU-IAS) and Global Environment Facility (GEF). The Board has conducted number of activities and initiatives under various components of this project
